Most often my designs start with a vision or a moment’s glance at a piece of grand architecture. A vision can appear at the sight of a special stone or fragment of nature. I then will sketch, exploring something like mnemonic systems to ascribe an abstract memory into a concrete object.
The transformation will continue directly to the handwork of the piece, or a model I can further manipulate. This method allows me to further explore the design to express more deeply my visions. When this process is complete, I finish the piece with carefully crafted details, both apparent and hidden, lending a private connection and quiet strength to each design.
